Personal Intelligence: A New Feature from Gemini - What It Means for You

Personal Intelligence: A New Feature from Gemini - What It Means for You

In the rapidly evolving world of technology, companies are constantly seeking ways to improve user experiences. One such example is Google's latest offering, Personal Intelligence, a feature introduced by Gemini to leverage your data for a more personalized experience. But what does this mean for users, particularly those in North East India and the broader Indian context?

Understanding Personal Intelligence

Personal Intelligence is an expansion of Gemini's earlier Personal Context feature, which was added about six months ago. Unlike its predecessor, Personal Context was enabled by default, but users could opt-out. Personal Context used past Gemini chats to create a personalized experience for future ones, learning about users' preferences based on their chat history. However, Personal Intelligence is now the catch-all brand for Gemini's personalization features, replacing Personal Context.

The Evolution of Personal Context

The functionality and memory-based features formerly known as Personal Context are now identified as Past Gemini chats. This setting has its own toggle on the Personal Intelligence page, but it's enabled by default, even if you hit 'Not now' for Personal Intelligence.

Connected Apps and Personalization

The new features under Connected Apps in the Personal Intelligence tab allow users to connect Google apps to Gemini. By doing so, users can choose to have Gemini use insights about them from connected apps to personalize their experience and help them get more done.

Privacy Concerns

Google argues that Personal Intelligence is built with privacy at the center. Users can choose to connect apps, decide exactly which apps to connect, and can turn it off anytime. However, the question remains whether users are willing to share more of their personal information with AI, given the vast amount of data tech companies already have about them.

The North East India Perspective

For users in North East India, the implications of Personal Intelligence are similar to those in other parts of India. While the convenience of a more personalized experience can be appealing, privacy concerns are valid, given the sensitive nature of personal data. It is essential for users to weigh the benefits against potential privacy risks before making a decision.

Moving Forward

The introduction of Personal Intelligence by Gemini underscores the increasing trend of AI-driven personalization in our digital lives. As users, we must continually evaluate the trade-off between convenience and privacy, making informed decisions that align with our comfort levels.
