Key Improvements in GnuCash 5.14

The latest version of GnuCash, a popular open-source accounting software, has been released with several enhancements and fixes. These updates cater to the needs of users across various platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems.

  • US Bonds Support: The New Finance::Quote module now supports US Bonds, allowing users to get prices for series E, EE, or I bonds.
  • Postponed Transactions: A new Postponed column has been added to the Scheduled Transactions list, enabling users to postpone scheduled transaction instances.
  • Currency Change: The Bulgarian Lev (BGN) currency has been removed as it will be replaced by EUR from January 1st, 2026.

Addressing User Concerns and Improving Stability

GnuCash 5.14 has made strides in addressing some long-standing issues. For instance, it fixes crashes in processing invoices and creating multi-commodity transactions due to premature destruction of the account tree view. Additionally, it rectifies the overly-narrow text boxes in the options dialogs and removes China Merchants Bank from quote sources.

Enhancing User Experience and Performance

This release also improves the user experience by updating the About dialog to allow users to select the version information and configured paths. Furthermore, it now uses environment variable names for user directory labels instead of capitalized versions of the variables in gnc-filepath-utils.

On the performance front, GnuCash 5.14 speeds up the XML backend to parse node text and GUIDs more efficiently. It also brings a variety of memory leak fixes and efficiency improvements.
