Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Manipur, revealed that overspeeding emerged as the primary cause of road fatalities in 2022. The state continues to face challenges in implementing effective accident response systems, leading to a high number of road accident deaths.

Bajpai emphasized that most road accidents are preventable, stressing that every life lost is a tragedy for families, communities, and the state. To combat this issue, the Government of Manipur and the Transport Department are intensifying efforts under the three Es: Engineering, Enforcement, and Education. These initiatives aim to improve road design, signage, black spot rectification, and pedestrian safety.

The department will organize workshops and various programs, including the National Road Safety Month 2026, to train police, health, and transport officials and strengthen inter-departmental coordination in accident management. Additionally, educational activities will be conducted in schools, and District Collectors have been directed to organize events in their respective districts to sensitize citizens about traffic rules, responsible driving, and the protection of human lives.
