In a significant development for the north-eastern state of Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Monday that the state government has repaid committed liabilities worth Rs 63.11 crore within two years of assuming office in December 2023. - Public Works Department: Liabilities of Rs 18.70 crore have been reduced to Rs 5.83 crore, with Rs 12.87 crore repaid.
- Public Health Engineering Department: Outstanding dues of Rs 48.42 crore have been cleared, with Rs 58 crore remaining pending.
- Power and Electricity Department: Out of a total liability of Rs 14.44 crore, Rs 1.82 crore remains unpaid.

Lalduhoma asserted that the government aims to clear all remaining liabilities over the next three years. He also emphasized the implementation of structural and administrative reforms to strengthen governance and ensure financial discipline. Furthermore, Mizoram has granted general consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate corruption cases in the state, reiterating the government's commitment to transparency.
Mizoram's Universal Health Care Scheme: A Noteworthy Initiative
In the social sector, Lalduhoma highlighted the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), launched in March 2022 and made operational in April. The scheme provides cashless health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per financial year for treatment at government hospitals, empanelled private hospitals, and church-run hospitals. Lalduhoma described the MUHCS as one of the best healthcare schemes in the country.
