In a significant move towards transparency and accountability, a seven-member re-verification committee has been formed to investigate the land compensation scam associated with the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway project. Measuring Progress: Packages 1 and 2
The teams responsible for Packages 1 and 2, led by Mokar Riba, began their assessment on January 14, starting from Eyu Anung or Yarte near Rapung village. Accompanied by gaon buras, land-affected people, activists, police officers, and personnel from the Central Reserve Battalion Force, the teams aim to ensure a smooth and peaceful reassessment process. Despite walking over 8 kilometers on the first day, the measured stretch was only slightly over one kilometer due to the challenging terrain.
Moving Forward: Packages 3 and 4
Simultaneously, the teams responsible for Packages 3 and 4, led by Rakesh Tacho, started their assessment from Pakke Camp. The Deputy Commissioner also visited Package 5, which is being led by ADC Rupa, Lobsang Tsetan. The Package 5 team started from 85.60 kilometers at Kaung Gabing Yangfo under the Chayang Tajo administrative circle.
Demands for Re-verification and Arrests
The need for re-verification and the immediate arrest of those involved in the scam has been emphasized by the East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation, the All Nyishi Youth Association East Kameng district unit, and activists Sol Dodum and Adv. Sunday Bagang. So far, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested four accused, including DLRSO Takam Kechak, broker Rajo Gyadi, Yayo Yangfo, and Khya Byagang.
