In a bid to carve out a unique identity for Mizoram, the northeastern state of India, Chief Minister Lalduhoma has set an ambitious goal: transforming Mizoram into a significant rubber-producing hub. A Well-Planned Approach: Learning from Tripura's Success
Guided by the lessons from the Tripura Rubber Mission, the Mizoram government, in consultation with the Rubber Board of India, formulated the Chief Minister's Rubber Mission in 2024. The objective was clear: to systematically transform Mizoram into a major rubber-producing state.

The Road Ahead: Infrastructure Development and Training
To ensure the success of the Chief Minister's Rubber Mission, various infrastructural developments and training programs are underway. Experts from the Rubber Board of India and Servo Lubricants (IOCL) are conducting training for around 550 rubber growers on scientific cultivation practices, tapping techniques, processing of rubber sheets, post-harvest handling, and pest management.
Land Suitable for Rubber Cultivation
Mizoram boasts approximately 50,000 hectares of land suitable for rubber cultivation. The state government considers rubber a priority crop due to its environmental and economic advantages, including afforestation, water conservation, good market value, and timber.
Infrastructure Support and Expansion
Infrastructure support under the mission includes the construction of approach roads to plantations, provision of rubber roller machines and tapping tools, and facilitation of marketing arrangements. This year, approach or link roads measuring 46.50 kilometers are being planned for rubber plantations in eleven locations across the state.
