Empowering Rural Entrepreneurship in Arunachal Pradesh

Celebrating Women-led Entrepreneurship in Arunachal Pradesh

The third Arunachal Saras-2026, a vibrant celebration of rural entrepreneurship and women-led self-help groups (SHGs), commenced at the DK Convention Centre in Itanagar on January 16.

Promoting Rural Livelihoods

Organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM), this year's Saras brought together women entrepreneurs from 25 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, along with participants from West Bengal, Nagaland, and Manipur. The event also featured catering units supported under the ArSRLM, known as Mother Kitchens, from various districts of Arunachal and Sikkim.

Encouraging Women Entrepreneurs

Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing, in his address, encouraged women SHGs to continue their remarkable journey in strengthening rural livelihoods. He assured them of greater support for future success.

Financial Assistance and Market Access

On the occasion, two women farmer-producer companies, Retusa WFPCL and Kenna WFPCL, were awarded financial assistance of Rs 357 lakh and Rs 364 lakh, respectively. Minister Tasing also inaugurated Arunima, a dedicated retail outlet showcasing SHG products from across Arunachal. The first store has been opened at the Hollongi airport, while the other has been launched in Itanagar.

Cultural Extravaganza

Beyond entrepreneurship, the festival promises a lively cultural programme. Visitors can enjoy K-pop dance competitions, cosplay contests, traditional dance performances, pet shows, and live performances by artists.

Impact on North East India and Beyond

The success of Arunachal Saras-2026 underscores the potential for women-led entrepreneurship in rural areas, not just in Arunachal Pradesh but across the North East region and India as a whole. By providing a platform for rural entrepreneurs to showcase their products and skills, events like these contribute to the economic growth and empowerment of women in these regions.

Reflections and Future Prospects

As the event continues till January 25, it presents an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and witness the entrepreneurial spirit of rural women. The success stories emerging from this year's Arunachal Saras-2026 serve as a testament to the potential for women-led entrepreneurship in rural India and the crucial role events like these play in fostering this potential.
