Natural Farming Gains Momentum in Lower Subansiri
In a significant stride towards sustainable agriculture, a training-cum-demonstration program on natural farming was held in Lower Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh. The event, organized by the Lower Subansiri Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the district agriculture office, saw the participation of seventy farmers.
Promoting Sustainable and Eco-friendly Practices
The program aimed to enhance the technical knowledge and practical skills of cluster resource persons. Soil science expert Dr Pema Khandu Goiba demonstrated the preparation of essential natural farming inputs such as Jeeva Amrit, Neem Astra, and Beejamrit. The focus was on reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers and encouraging organic and natural farming methods for improved soil health, crop productivity, and sustainability.
Empowering Local Experts
Apart from farmers, agriculture extension scientist Dr Hage Manty and animal science programme assistant Dr Joram Tatam also participated in the program. They gained hands-on experience in preparing natural bio-inputs, which will enable them to train more farmers in their respective clusters.
Implications for Northeast India and Beyond
The shift towards natural farming is crucial for the Northeast region, which is heavily dependent on agriculture. By promoting eco-friendly practices, we can ensure food security, protect our environment, and create a sustainable livelihood for our farmers. This initiative in Lower Subansiri is a step forward in achieving these goals and can serve as a model for other districts in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast region.
Looking Ahead
As we move towards a more sustainable future, it is essential that we support and promote natural farming practices. The success of this program in Lower Subansiri offers hope that we can transform our agriculture sector and create a healthier, more resilient environment for generations to come.
