Tragedy Strikes Sela Lake: A Fatal Incident Highlights the Dangers of High-Altitude Tourism

Resuming the search operation at 8 am on Saturday, a joint team consisting of SDRF, Army, SSB, ITBP, and police worked tirelessly for two hours. The operation, hampered by poor underwater visibility and extreme cold conditions, eventually led to the recovery of the 24-year-old tourist, Madhav M, at 10:10 am.
A Recurring Pattern of Disregard
Sadly, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred at Sela Lake. On 5 January, a group of tourists intentionally walked on the frozen lake, leading four of them to fall into the icy water. However, their companions managed to pull them out, saving their lives.
Despite repeated advisories from the Tawang district administration urging tourists to avoid walking on high-altitude frozen lakes, incidents like these continue to occur at Sela Lake, Bumla Pass, Shongetser Lake, and PT Tso.
