Remembering NTR: A Legend in Telugu Politics and Cinema

Remembering N. T. Rama Rao: A Pioneer in Telugu Politics and Cinema

On the 30th anniversary of his demise, the family of N. T. Rama Rao (NTR), a legendary figure in Telugu cinema and politics, paid tributes to him in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. This event serves as a reminder of the profound impact NTR had on the region and the nation as a whole.

Tributes Paid at NTR Ghat

NTR's family members, including his sons Balakrishna and Ramakrishna, daughters Purandeswari and Bhuvaneswari, grandsons Kalyan Ram and Nara Lokesh, and his second wife, Lakshmi Parvathi, gathered at NTR Ghat on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake to pay their respects.

In addition, leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), actor Babu Mohan, and NTR's fans joined in the tribute, recalling his services to the Telugu people. The NTR Trust had made arrangements for an all-religious prayer meeting and displayed photographs depicting NTR's journey in the film industry and politics.

NTR's Legacy in Politics

Balakrishna, an actor and TDP MLA, stated that NTR will be remembered as long as the sun shines. He highlighted NTR's achievements, including founding TDP in the early 1980s, providing political representation to marginalized sections, and implementing pro-poor schemes that became a model for the entire country.

Ramakrishna, NTR's son, and Suhasini, his granddaughter, launched a rally that culminated at NTR Ghat. Suhasini recalled NTR's abolition of the patel-patwari system and his welfare schemes, while Lakshmi Parvathi emphasized NTR's unwavering commitment to the people.

Purandeswari, NTR's daughter and a BJP MP, noted that even after 30 years, NTR continues to be cherished by the people. She praised him as a great leader who used politics to serve the people and whose schemes are still being implemented across the country.

NTR's Impact on the North East and India

NTR's influence extended beyond Andhra Pradesh, inspiring political leaders and movements in other regions, including the North East. His fight for Telugu self-respect and recognition resonates with the ongoing struggles for regional identity and autonomy in the North East.

Moreover, NTR's emphasis on pro-poor policies and welfare schemes is relevant to the broader Indian context, where addressing socio-economic disparities remains a significant challenge.

Reflections and Looking Forward

As we remember NTR on his death anniversary, it is essential to acknowledge his significant contributions to Telugu cinema and politics. His legacy continues to inspire future generations, reminding us of the power of leadership and the importance of serving the people.

In the words of Balakrishna, NTR will live on as long as the sun shines. His spirit and vision continue to guide those who strive for a better, more inclusive India.
