Nongstoin-Rambrai-Chaygaon Road Project: A Boon for North East India's Connectivity

Delayed Approval Threatens Progress

The delayed approval of the DPR for Phase II of the 70-km Nongstoin-Rambrai-Chaygaon road project has raised concerns among local headmen in West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. The project, once completed, will significantly reduce travel time to the Gopinath Bordoloi Airport and boost connectivity in the region.

The Project's Impact on North East India

The Nongstoin-Rambrai-Chaygaon road project is not just a local concern; it has broader implications for North East India. The improved road network will facilitate smoother transportation of goods and people, fostering economic growth and integration within the region.

Reduced Travel Time

The project, upon completion, is expected to cut travel time to the Gopinath Bordoloi Airport by two hours. This reduction in travel time will undoubtedly benefit the residents of West Khasi Hills and other nearby regions.

Economic Growth and Integration

The improved road network will also foster economic growth by facilitating the transportation of goods. This increased connectivity will help integrate the region with the rest of India, opening up new opportunities for trade and commerce.

Uncertainty Over Phase II Development

Locals have expressed concern over the lack of clarity regarding the development of Phase II. Despite already signing the agreement deed for land compensation, there is no information about whether Phase II will be developed or abandoned.

Call for Immediate Implementation

Recently, the Syiem of Rambrai Elaka, along with the Synjuk of Village Headmen (Sordars), met at Mawdumdum and adopted a resolution to jointly write to the Meghalaya PWD Minister and the Ministry to immediately implement Phase II.

Looking Forward

The Nongstoin-Rambrai-Chaygaon road project holds great potential for improving connectivity and fostering economic growth in North East India. It is crucial that the project's development proceeds without further delay to ensure the region reaps the benefits of this much-needed infrastructure.
