The recent National Shooting Trials held at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi saw impressive performances from two shooters hailing from Northeast India, Tilottama Sen and Niraj Kumar. Their victories in the 50m rifle 3 positions and 50m rifle prone events, respectively, have caught the attention of the Indian shooting fraternity and beyond.
Tilottama Sen: A Continuing Streak of Success
National champion Tilottama Sen, a Karnataka shooter, continued her winning streak by clinching the top spot in the 50m rifle 3 positions event. With a score of 360.1, she narrowly edged out Ashi Chouskey by 0.6 points, who finished second with a score of 359.5. Manini Kaushik of Rajasthan took the third spot with a score of 347.5. Tilottama's performance is particularly noteworthy as she recently won 11 medals in the 68th National Shooting Championship.
Niraj Kumar: Consistent Performances Lead to Victory
Navy's Niraj Kumar claimed the men's 50m rifle prone event with a consistent performance throughout the finals. His final score of 360.5 was 3.6 points more than Adriyan Karmakar of West Bengal, who finished second with a score of 356.9. National champion Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar finished third with a score of 346.7.
Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu's Victory in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol
In the 25m rapid fire pistol event, Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu of Punjab secured the top spot. He shot 29 in the finals, two more than Vijayveer Sidhu who finished with 27. Mandeep Singh of Haryana took the third spot. This event was also played in the new ISSF format, with eight shooters qualifying for the finals instead of six.
