Capacitating Rural Leaders for Inclusive Development in Arunachal Pradesh
In a significant stride towards strengthening grassroots governance, the State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR) launched a three-day training program in Boleng, Siang district. The initiative aims to equip newly elected Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive rural development effectively.
Enhancing Capacity for Local Development
Siang Deputy Commissioner, Tayi Taggu, emphasized the importance of Own Source Revenue (OSR) generation to address immediate development needs without relying solely on government funding. He encouraged women representatives, stating that their lack of formal education or gender should not deter them from participating in decision-making processes and monitoring schemes.
Learning and Digital Governance
Tagu described Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) as an ideal platform for continuous learning, particularly with the integration of modern systems such as mobile monitoring systems, geo-tagging, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), PFMS, online audits, and other digital governance tools. He underscored that no government scheme can be successfully implemented without adhering to proper procedures of planning, implementation, and monitoring.
Building a Strong Foundation for Effective Governance
Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) Tamat Tatak expressed gratitude for the state government and SIRD&PR for selecting Siang district for this capacity-building program. He urged all participants to make the most of this opportunity and establish a strong foundation for effective governance and development during their five-year tenure.
Relevance to Northeast India and Beyond
The training program in Boleng underscores the ongoing efforts to empower rural leaders and foster sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh, a region known for its rich biodiversity and unique cultural heritage. As the Indian government continues to push for decentralized governance, programs like these play a crucial role in equipping local leaders with the skills necessary to address pressing development challenges and contribute to the broader national agenda.
Looking Ahead
The successful completion of this training program in Siang district marks a significant step towards strengthening local self-governance and promoting inclusive development in Arunachal Pradesh. As newly elected PRI members continue to hone their skills and knowledge, they will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their communities and contributing to the overall development of the region.
