Analysis: Love story behind bars: Two life-term convicts to marry after live-in at Jaipur open jail

A Love Story Behind Bars: Two Convicts to Wed in Rajasthan

A Unique Love Story Unfolds in Rajasthan's Open Jail

In an unusual turn of events, two convicts serving life sentences in high-profile murder cases in Rajasthan have decided to tie the knot. The wedding, set to take place on January 23, 2026, in Barodamev town of Alwar district, has sparked public interest, particularly in North East India.

The Convicts: Priya Seth and Hanuman Prasad

Priya Seth (33), convicted in the 2018 murder of Dushyant Sharma, and Hanuman Prasad alias Jack (32), serving a life sentence for the 2017 murder of five family members in Alwar, are the two individuals involved in this unique love story. Both are currently serving their sentences.

The Journey of Love in Prison

The couple met after being shifted from Jaipur Central Jail to the Open Jail in Sanganer around a year ago. Their relationship grew gradually, and they entered into a relationship about six months ago. For the past four months, they have reportedly been living together in a live-in arrangement within the open jail premises.

The Wedding and Parole Process

The three-day wedding ceremonies are being held at Hanuman Prasad's ancestral home in Barodamev, Alwar district. The parole process began in December, during which they even presented the wedding invitation card before the High Court as part of their plea.

Implications and Relevance to North East India

This unusual love story, while happening in Rajasthan, has implications for the broader Indian context, including the North East region. It raises questions about the nature of rehabilitation and reintegration for convicts, and the potential impact of such relationships on the prison system and society at large.

Reflections and Looking Forward

As this love story unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the complexities of human emotions, even in the most unexpected of places. It also highlights the need for a nuanced approach to prison reform and rehabilitation, taking into account the individual's circumstances and potential for change.
