Welfare Measures
Verma discussed the various welfare measures implemented by the government, such as the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which provide free ration to more than 14 lakh beneficiaries in Nagaland alone. The allocation of rice to the state also increased, with around 11,000 metric tonnes allocated monthly.
Support for Persons with Disabilities
Under the ministry of social justice and empowerment, the government has spent Rs 44 crore across the Northeast to organize camps for persons with disabilities (PwDs), benefiting over 50,000 individuals. In Nagaland, 31 such camps have been organized, benefitting 935 people. The government has also issued UDID cards and provided aids and assistive devices to individuals in the region.
Education and Skill Development
Scholarships worth Rs 5 crore have been provided to divyang students in the Northeast, benefitting 1,383 people, including 40 students in Nagaland. Additionally, skill development initiatives and grants amounting to Rs 1.15 crore have benefitted 192 individuals in the state.
Addressing Corruption and Ensuring Transparency
In response to a query regarding the alleged deduction of one kilogram of rice from beneficiaries, Verma asserted that there should be no deduction under any circumstances and strict action will be taken against any ration dealer found making such cuts.
