Toll Gate on Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge: A New Approach to Vehicle Regulation
In an effort to manage traffic and promote the use of highways during night hours, the Government of Assam has decided to set up a toll gate on the upcoming Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge. The toll plaza, estimated to cost Rs 6.11 crore, will be the first of its kind in the State and will primarily target heavy vehicles.
Key Features and Exemptions
The toll plaza, set to be completed within three months, will exempt small vehicles from charges. On the other hand, heavy vehicles will be subjected to a higher fee. This measure is aimed at preventing trucks from entering the city, thus reducing congestion and promoting a smoother flow of traffic.
Funding and Construction
The toll plaza will be constructed through the State's Own Prioritized Development Fund. The extra-dosed PSC (pre-stressed concrete) bridge, the first of its kind in the Northeast, is being funded by the New Development Bank (NDB), which is covering 80 per cent of the total cost, with the remaining amount financed by the Government of Assam. SP Singla Constructions Private Ltd. is executing the project.
