National Context

Across India, 982 personnel from the police, fire service, home guards, civil defence, and correctional services received gallantry and service medals. Among them, the highest number of bravery awards were given to personnel deployed in the Jammu and Kashmir operational theatre, followed by those serving in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism and the North Eastern region, including Manipur.

Relevance to the North East Region

These awards underscore the critical role that the North Eastern region plays in maintaining peace, security, and order in India. The region's servicemen and women consistently demonstrate their dedication and commitment to their duties, often in challenging and dangerous conditions.
