A Leap Forward for Pherzawl: Manipur's Least Developed District

On the 77th Republic Day, the Manipur government announced a series of development projects and welfare schemes for Pherzawl, the state's least developed district. Located on the borders of Myanmar, Assam, and Mizoram, this district is predominantly inhabited by the Kuk-Zo-Hmar-Mozo tribes.

Development Projects and Infrastructure

The Deputy Commissioner, Mannuamching, outlined ongoing and proposed projects, including the expansion survey of Tipaimukh Road (NH-102), the completion of boys and girls hostels, the construction of an Eklavya Model Residential School at Loibual, a District Transport Office, a working women's hostel, a proposed Community College, and a Mini-Secretariat.

Social Security and Inclusive Growth

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the role of national welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, PM-KISAN, PMKSY, ICDS, the Right to Education Act, and employment guarantee programmes in promoting social security and inclusive growth. She urged the youth to focus on education, skills, and to contribute positively to society.

Health, Education, and Empowerment

The Deputy Commissioner discussed improvements in health and drinking water infrastructure, plans for a district hospital, progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission and New Development Bank (BRICS) schemes, and steps to strengthen financial inclusion through new bank branches. She also highlighted the importance of gender equality, women's safety, and quality education for children.

Cultural Unity and Appreciation

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to 47 individuals for outstanding service, while departments showcased initiatives, including a SVEEP Help Desk for voter services. The programme concluded with cultural performances celebrating unity in diversity.

Relevance to North East Region and India

The development initiatives announced for Pherzawl are significant not only for the district but also for the broader North East region, as they aim to address the challenges faced by less developed areas. These initiatives align with the central government's vision of inclusive development and contribute to the nation's goal of holistic growth.

Looking Ahead

The announcements made on Republic Day mark a promising step towards the development of Pherzawl. However, the successful implementation of these projects and schemes will depend on effective planning, coordination, and execution. As the district moves forward, it is crucial to maintain the momentum and continue working towards a brighter future for the people of Pherzawl.
