On 25th January, the 16th National Voters Day was celebrated across India, including in various districts of North East India. This day is significant as it emphasizes the importance of voting and encourages citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
Empowering the Youth: A Focus on First-Time Voters
In Tawang district, the DC-cum-DEO Namgyal Angmo emphasized the pivotal role of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in strengthening democracy and highlighted the need to educate young voters about their responsibilities. In Dibang Valley district, the focus was on encouraging democratic participation, particularly among young and first-time voters.
Recognizing Dedicated Service: Felicitating the Best BLOs
In Tawang district, three best Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were felicitated for their dedicated service, while in Upper Subansiri district, awards were presented to the best BLOs. These recognitions underscore the crucial role of BLOs in maintaining a clean, error-free electoral roll and ensuring maximum enrolment.
Strengthening Democracy through Informed Participation
In Lower Subansiri district, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer (DEO) Oli Perme encouraged citizens to exercise their franchise wisely to elect good leaders. In Etalin, Dibang Valley district, the Zilla Parishad Chairman (ZPC) Sadhu Mihu urged students and young voters to recognize the value of their vote and exercise their democratic rights responsibly.
Addressing the Challenges: A Call for Transparency and Correction
Tana Bapu, the DEO (i/c) in Tirap district, emphasized that a healthy electoral roll leads to a healthy election and called upon the BLOs to carry out their duties with utmost dedication. This includes not only the inclusion of new voters but also the correction of names and deletion of duplicate or multiple enrolments.
