Northeast Shines Bright in Republic Day Honours
The 71st Republic Day celebrations in India, held on January 26, 2026, were marked by the recognition of numerous personnel from the Northeastern states. The region's representatives received national honours for their gallantry, distinguished service, and meritorious service.
Assam Leads the Way
Assam emerged as the biggest contributor from the region, with a total of 20 medals. The honours spanned all three major police medal categories. Notably, Imdadul Hussain Bora, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Assam, received the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) for his long and distinguished service in policing and public service.

Tripura's representatives in the honours list included Deba Prasad Roy, Pradip Chandra Das, Bipul Deb, Jiban Debnath, Amal Datta, and Dhrubajyoti Halder, who received the Medal for Meritorious Service.
