Remembering the Past, Building the Future: The United Peoples Front's Reconciliation Month

In an effort to promote unity and prevent the recurrence of past conflicts, the United Peoples Front (UPF) of Manipur observed its Reconciliation Month in December 2025. This initiative, launched with the campaign "Let Us Not Repeat the 7 Years of Devastation in Manipur," has significant implications for the people of North East India and the country as a whole.

During the Reconciliation Month observance, UPF members paid tribute to the martyrs at Ningsing Khun in Jiribam district, Manipur. Advocate L Jadumani, Advisor of the UPF, emphasized the importance of remembering the 7 years of devastation that the region experienced. He called upon the people to unite and work together to ensure that such a period is never repeated.

Understanding the Causes and Consequences

Jadumani explained that the 7 years of devastation were a result of various factors, including the struggle of the ancestors of Manipur to unite the scattered regions, fight back against external forces, and restore lost freedom. By recalling this history, the present generation must learn from the past and work towards maintaining the freedom and security of Manipur.

Honoring the Martyrs: Tributes to the Heroes of the Anglo-Manipur War

As part of the Reconciliation Month, floral tributes were paid to the memorial site of the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 at Ningsing Khun. Tikendrajit, Paona Brajabasi, and Thangal General, who laid down their lives for the land and freedom of Manipur, were remembered for their supreme sacrifices.

The UPF also organized a gathering at the Manipuri Boys Hostel in Silchar, Assam, during the Reconciliation Month. This event highlighted the importance of Manipuris living in different parts of the country, particularly in Assam, uniting for the common good.
