Progress in Tengnoupal: Infrastructure, Livelihood, and Social Welfare Initiatives

In Manipur's Tengnoupal district, the Vibrant Villages Programme Phase-II is transforming border villages with critical infrastructure interventions. This development, funded by the central government, signifies a significant stride towards improved rural living conditions.

Infrastructure Development

Under the Vibrant Villages Programme, 16 critical villages have been identified for infrastructural improvements, including roads, telecom connectivity, and livelihood-generation assets. Baseline surveys have been completed, and 239 additional villages are on the verge of receiving similar interventions.

Livelihood Enhancement

Livelihood initiatives in Tengnoupal have yielded promising results. The district has seen the establishment of 30 piggery units, 60 women trained in tailoring, 50 entrepreneurs supported with RAMP branding and skill training, and 60 individuals assisted with Udyam registration. Furthermore, under DDU-GKY, 27 out of 60 trained youths have already secured employment.

Social Welfare and Financial Inclusion

Social welfare schemes in Tengnoupal provide support to vulnerable populations. The National Social Assistance Programme offers aid to 1,104 elderly citizens, 106 widows, and 18 individuals with disabilities. Meanwhile, the Annapurna Scheme supplies free food grains to 183 needy beneficiaries.

Financial inclusion has been strengthened through the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Tengnoupal now boasts 357 SHGs across 54 Village Level Federations (VLF) and 4 Cluster Level Federations (CLF), with systematic training in bookkeeping, auditing, and leadership.

Implications for North East India and Beyond

The progress in Tengnoupal holds relevance for the broader North East region and India as a whole. Successful implementation of such initiatives can serve as a model for other rural areas, fostering sustainable growth and improving living conditions for millions of people.

Looking Forward: A Secure and Prosperous Tengnoupal

As Tengnoupal moves towards Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and the Ajeevika Mission Gramin, the district is poised to unlock new employment opportunities, enhance asset creation, and align activities with agricultural cycles. With a focus on social mobilisation, financial inclusion, and sustainable growth, Tengnoupal is committed to a more secure and prosperous future for its residents.
