Nagaland's Leap into the Future: Drone School Inauguration
In a significant stride towards modernizing governance and skill development, Nagaland's Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, inaugurated the state's first Drone School and Drone Centre of Excellence on Monday. The occasion marked a milestone during the 77th Republic Day celebrations.
Innovation and Employment Opportunities
Located at the Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) in Kohima, this state-of-the-art facility is an initiative of the Planning and Transformation Department. It aims to empower young individuals with specialized drone technology skills, fostering innovation-led employment opportunities across the state.
A Forward-Looking Investment
Rio hailed the Drone School as a forward-thinking investment, asserting that it would play a pivotal role in leveraging modern technology for governance, development, and public service delivery. He applauded the department for spearheading the introduction of emerging technologies in Nagaland.
Global Transformation of Drones
The Chief Minister highlighted the global transformation of drone technology, which was once primarily associated with warfare, but is now increasingly utilized for constructive purposes such as surveying, mapping, disaster management, agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring.
A Hub for Innovation and Capacity Building
Rio envisioned the Drone School as a hub for innovation and capacity building, facilitating the dissemination of technical knowledge to districts and remote areas. This would ensure that the advantages of technological advancement reach every corner of the state.
Strengthening Nagaland's Preparedness
The Chief Minister underscored that the initiative would bolster Nagaland's readiness for future challenges and position the state as a leader in the responsible and effective use of drone technology.
Plans for Training and Collaboration
The Drone School will offer DGCA-compliant Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) courses, along with short-term non-DGCA programs in FPV flying, drone repair and maintenance, and drone data analysis and mapping. The first batch of 50 trainees, sponsored by the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM), will commence training from January 27.
The trainees will receive free instruction across multiple specializations, along with placement assistance and industry linkages.
