Nagaland's Progress and Commitment to National Goals
On the 77th Republic Day celebration, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio reaffirmed the state's commitment to achieving the national goal of 'Viksit Bharat@2047' with human resource development at its core. The state is working collaboratively with other regions to advance welfare, infrastructure, and governance initiatives.
Advancing Naga Peace Talks
Rio emphasized the importance of the Political Affairs Committee in facilitating the Naga peace talks. He urged all parties involved to prioritize the aspirations of the people and work towards a solution that is honorable, inclusive, and acceptable without further delay, stressing unity and mutual understanding.
Regional Development and Infrastructure
The state government is addressing regional disparities in Eastern Nagaland by collaborating with the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation on the demand for the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA). Infrastructure developments include the construction of a construction skill center in partnership with the Construction Skill Development Council (CSDC), an online registration and licensing system for the Labor department, and the upgrading of polytechnics to degree colleges.
Education, Scholarship Governance, and Technical Education
In the education sector, the state has completed an in-service teachers training-cum-examination center, approved a three-month certificate course for language teachers, and streamlined scholarship governance. Technical education initiatives include an MoU with ARMS Incorporation of Japan for employment opportunities for technical graduates.
Sports, Agriculture, and Healthcare
The state has hosted the Dr. Talimeren Ao Junior Girls National Football Championship and is preparing to host the 9th North East Youth Festival. In agriculture, the state is implementing the National Mission on Natural Farming and improving project implementation through AG Horizon Pvt. Ltd. The horticulture sector has achieved area expansion of 1,290 hectares, and initiatives are underway for an apple processing unit, low-cost oyster mushroom units, and promotion of GI-tagged tree tomato cultivation. In healthcare, over 5.78 lakh PM-JAY and CMHIS (General) cards have been issued, and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is improving healthcare delivery.
Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Sericulture, and Infrastructure
Mass vaccination of bovines against foot and mouth disease is underway, and nine pork meat production units are being established. The Fisheries department is developing 10 hectares of water bodies under PMMSY, and a table fish production farm is planned under NEC. The Sericulture department is promoting eri silkworm rearing in five districts. Infrastructure developments include road projects under NESIDS, rural roads under PMGSY using eco-friendly Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology, and upgradation of the Nagarjan substation and Jal Jeevan Mission progress.
Peace and Security
Nagaland remains one of the most peaceful states in the country, with the second-lowest cognizable crime rate. The state police are strengthening their response to cybercrime, financial offenses, and anti-narcotics operations. One Stop Centers are operational in all districts, and the Nagaland Juvenile Justice Rules 2025 have been notified.
Looking Ahead: A More Developed, Prosperous, and Progressive Nagaland
While significant progress has been made, much remains to be done. Rio called upon citizens to rededicate themselves to building a more developed, prosperous, and progressive Nagaland. The state's commitment to development and peace aligns with the broader Indian context of striving for a better future for all its citizens.
