The Importance of Reverification in the North East Region
The Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway compensation issue has been a contentious topic in the North East region, particularly in East Kameng district. Social activists, local organizations, and residents have been demanding a thorough reverification of all packages under the project. This move towards transparency is crucial for maintaining public trust and ensuring that development projects benefit the local community fairly.
Implications and Future Directions
The reverification process will involve the preparation of a comparative statement in Excel format, outlining the chainage, beneficiary names, land areas, and standing assets. The committee will also compare the previous compensation estimates and record any differences. The process will be videographed and properly recorded, with a deadline of 45 days for submission of the report.
The decision to constitute a reverification committee comes after the arrest of DLRSO Takam Kechak by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on 17 December for his alleged role in the multi-crore land compensation issue. The state government has been under pressure to act against officers involved in the scam.
Following the government's order for reverification, the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has called off its proposed bandh. ANYA has reiterated its demands for the punishment of officers and brokers found guilty by the initial fact-finding committee, early disbursement of compensation to genuine land-affected families, and the handing over of the project to the executing agency for timely completion.
The ANYA has also appealed to all affected families to cooperate fully with the reverification committee to ensure a transparent and credible process. The association has reaffirmed its stand against corruption and urged the public not to engage in any manipulation or malpractice related to land compensation.
The ANYA has warned that it will launch intensified democratic movements if any foul play is detected during the reverification process without any prior intimation or ultimatum. The association expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and reaffirmed its commitment to working peacefully, constructively, and lawfully for the welfare of the community.
Conclusion
The reverification of the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway is a significant step towards addressing corruption and ensuring fair compensation for land-affected families in East Kameng district. The successful completion of this process will not only contribute to the region's development but also foster trust between the government and the local community.
