A Compassionate Christmas in Ukhrul: Little Flower Church's Outreach Programme
In the spirit of the season, the Catholic faithful of Little Flower Church in Hungpung village, Ukhrul, embarked on a unique Christmas celebration this year. Instead of focusing solely on festivities, they chose to extend their celebrations by visiting patients at the Ukhrul District Hospital.
Spreading Goodwill and Solidarity
Led by catechist Andrew Raikhanmi Rimai, around 80 church members offered prayers, words of encouragement, and Christmas greetings to patients and their attendants. They distributed traditional Christmas delicacies, such as chini gur (jaggery), symbolizing their care and support during the festive season.
Beyond Religious Boundaries
Catechist Raikhanmi Rimai explained that the visit aimed to spread the message of God's love and pray for the patients' healing. He also acknowledged the hospital staff's tireless service, stating that Jesus Christ is born in their hearts.
Strengthening Social Bonds and Promoting Compassion
The visit to the hospital was not only a heartwarming gesture but also a testament to the spirit of Christmas serving humanity, particularly the sick and the suffering. Such initiatives help strengthen social bonds and promote compassion beyond religious boundaries.
Impact on the North East Region and Beyond
This act of kindness serves as an inspiration for communities across the North East region and India, emphasizing the importance of empathy, compassion, and service during the festive season. It is a reminder that the true spirit of Christmas lies not in material possessions but in acts of kindness and love towards others.
Looking Forward
As we approach the new year, let us strive to emulate the compassion shown by the Little Flower Church members and extend our support to those in need. By doing so, we can create a more empathetic and caring society, not just during the holiday season, but throughout the year.
