Analysis: ACF condemns all forms of persecution in India

Religious Tensions and the Quest for Peace: ACF's Perspective

Religious Tensions and the Quest for Peace: ACF's Perspective

As the nation celebrates Christmas, a significant religious occasion, the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has raised concerns over the increasing persecution of Christians in India. Their call for peace and unity is especially relevant in the North East region, where religious harmony is essential for maintaining social cohesion.

Growing Concerns over Religious Persecution

According to ACF President Tarh Miri, religious persecution is not an isolated incident but a growing concern in India. The targeting of Christians during this festive season, despite India's commitment to secularism, has been disheartening, Miri said.

The Role of Religious Extremism

Miri pointed out that divisive forces such as the Hindutva ideology, Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and anti-conversion bills are contributing to religious tensions in India. These factors are causing discord among citizens, undermining the country's democratic image on the international stage.

Silence from the Powers That Be

One of the most alarming aspects, according to Miri, is the silence of those in power. The tolerance of religious hate speeches and mass murder campaigns within political jurisdictions is unacceptable, he said.

Democracy and Personal Freedom

Miri emphasized that democracy must encompass both governance and a way of life. It should guarantee personal freedom of expression, equality before the law, and freedom from discrimination based on religion, colour, or race.

In the North East region, these principles are crucial for maintaining social harmony and fostering a peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

Looking Forward

As we reflect on the ACF's concerns, it is essential to remember that religious harmony is a shared responsibility. It is incumbent upon all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliations, to promote peace and unity in our society. Let us strive to uphold the ideals of secularism and democracy, ensuring a better future for all.
