Nashik-Akkalkot Corridor: A Game-Changer for Regional Connectivity

In a significant move, the Indian Cabinet has approved a new 6-lane highway project, the Nashik-Solapur-Akkalkot corridor, worth Rs. 19,142 crore. This development underlines the government's commitment to improving regional connectivity and promoting integrated transport infrastructure under the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan.

Improved Regional Connectivity

The new corridor will connect important cities such as Nashik, Ahilyanagar, and Solapur, and extend to Kurnool. By linking the west coast to the east coast, it will significantly improve logistics efficiency for freight originating and terminating at key industrial zones. For North East India, this improved connectivity could potentially open up new trade opportunities.

Economic Development and Employment

The project is expected to generate approximately 251.06 lakh man-days of direct employment and 313.83 lakh man-days of indirect employment. The increased economic activity in the vicinity of the proposed corridor will also induce additional employment opportunities. Such infrastructure projects play a crucial role in regional economic development, a factor of great relevance for the North East region of India.

Travel Efficiency and Safety

The proposed corridor aims to improve travel efficiency by cutting travel time by 17 hours and reducing the travel distance by 201 km. With a design speed of 100 km/h, the corridor is designed for improved safety and uninterrupted traffic movement. This will not only reduce travel time but also operating costs, contributing to the overall economic development of the regions it passes through.
