Delhi Capitals Secure First Win in WPL 2026: A Turning Point in the Women's T20 League

The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 is in full swing, and the latest match between Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) and UP Warriorz Women (UPW-W) has added a new twist to the competition. After two consecutive losses, DC-W managed to secure their first win, beating UPW-W in a one-sided contest.

Batting Showdown: DC-W Outshines UPW-W

Captain Meg Lanning won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision seemed to pay off initially as Marizanne Kapp dismissed Kiran Navgire in the first over. However, DC-W recovered well with two significant partnerships. Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee played a pivotal role, scoring 94 runs in just 11.3 overs. Lee, in particular, shone with a well-compiled 67 off 44 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. Despite a late collapse, UPW-W managed a total of 154/8.

Bowling Masterclass: DC-W Bowlers Shine

The DC-W bowlers were equally impressive, with Kapp and Shafali Verma taking two wickets each. The pair has been crucial in DC-W's bowling attack, and their performances have been instrumental in the team's improved showing.

WPL 2026 Points Table: North East Connection

The win has moved DC-W from the bottom of the table to fourth place, but they still have work to do to catch up with the leaders. The North East region is represented by Gujarat Giants Women (GG-W), who are currently placed third in the table. The success of DC-W and GG-W will undoubtedly inspire cricket enthusiasts in the region and create a buzz around women's cricket in North East India.

Harmanpreet Kaur of MI-W has been the standout performer so far, with 165 runs to her name. Lizelle Lee of DC-W is close behind with 163 runs. In the bowling department, Nandini Sharma of GG-W has taken eight wickets, while Amelia Kerr, Nadine de Klerk, and Nicola Carey of MI-W have taken six each.
