Highlights from CES 2026: Intel's Panther Lake Chips, Dell's XPS Rebirth, and More
Intel's Panther Lake Chips: A Leap Forward in PC Technology
CES 2026 kicked off with Intel's announcement of its new chip, Panther Lake. The Core Ultra Series 3 chips, Intel's first line of Panther Lake chips, are set to usher in a new era for PCs. These chips, built using a new manufacturing process known as 18A, are expected to significantly improve performance and energy efficiency.
Starting tomorrow, a variety of consumer laptops powered by Panther Lake/Core Ultra Series 3 chips will hit the market. High-performance laptops, targeted towards gamers and multimedia creators, will utilize the Core Ultra X9 and X7 processors, which also feature integrated Intel Arc graphics.
While the industrial use cases of Panther Lake chips, such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and smart cities, will be available in the second quarter of the year, the initial focus is on enhancing consumer PCs.
Dell's XPS Rebirth: A Return to Form
Dell, in an unusual move for the tech industry, apologized for its decision a year prior to rebrand its entire line of PCs. The rebranding resulted in products like the Dell Pro Plus Earbuds and the Dell Premium 14 Laptop, which were met with a negative response. The apology marked a significant step towards reversing the ill will generated towards Dell in recent years.
With the apology, Dell announced the return of the Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16, two laptops that no longer feature the edgy design elements of the previous models. The new XPS laptops are thinner, more premium-looking, and ditch Nvidia's discrete graphics for the improved integrated graphics in Intel's latest Panther Lake chips.
While the XPS 14 and XPS 16 will be available for purchase on January 6, the prices start at $2,049 and $2,200 respectively. More affordable configurations are expected to launch in February.
Interestingly, Dell also hinted at the forthcoming redesigned XPS 13, a laptop aimed at competing directly with the MacBook Air. The company promised that the XPS 13 would be the most affordable XPS laptop ever made, without revealing further details.
