Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 at CES 2026: Exciting Upgrades and Looming Concerns

The much-anticipated Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has made its return at CES 2026, and while the excitement is palpable, there are reasons to be both optimistic and apprehensive.

A Shift in Hardware: From AMD to Intel

One of the most significant changes in the new Zephyrus G14 is the shift from AMD to Intel processors. While Intel's performance is not a concern, the battery life, which was a standout feature in the original model, remains a worry. Asus aims to deliver at least 8 hours of battery life, but we'll have to wait for hands-on testing to confirm.

Brighter and More Colorful: The OLED Display

Asus is doubling down on the OLED display, promising a significant increase in brightness compared to previous generations. The new Zephyrus G14 boasts a 14-inch, 3K, 120Hz display with up to 1000 nits of brightness in HDR and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut. However, HDR brightness can be hit or miss, and whether the increased brightness will be worth it remains to be seen.

Improved Brightness Across the Board

Asus claims that the SDR brightness is also doubled, which could be a welcome upgrade, especially considering the previous model's close to 400 nits of brightness. The display's color accuracy and fast response time are also impressive, making it an attractive choice for gamers.

Design and Performance Enhancements

The new Zephyrus G14 maintains its thin and light design, despite the powerful RTX 5080 hardware. The laptop is 0.63 inches thick and 3.31 pounds. Other design improvements include an upgrade in lighting zones from 7 to 35, a more efficient ventilation system, and a significantly improved touchpad.

North East India and the Gaming Laptop Market

For North East India, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 represents a high-performance gaming laptop option that can double as a workstation. As the region continues to develop its gaming and tech industries, laptops like the G14 could become increasingly relevant, offering a balance between portability and power.

Looking Forward

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 at CES 2026 presents a mix of exciting upgrades and potential concerns. With its improved display, design, and performance, it remains a strong contender in the mid-range gaming laptop market. However, the switch to Intel and the question of battery life will be crucial factors in determining its success.
