Ikea's Smart Lamps: Expanding Matter Support and Lighting Up North East Homes

Swedish furniture giant Ikea is making strides in the smart home industry by expanding Matter support to two of its popular lamps. The Varmblixt donut lamp and pendant lamp are set to receive an upgrade, bringing color-changing and white LED lighting capabilities to homes across the globe, including those in North East India.

Revamped Varmblixt Donut Lamp

The original Varmblixt donut lamp, known for its glossy finish, is getting a makeover. The new smart version sports a soft, matte white finish, designed to accentuate its internal lighting. With the Bilresa remote, users can smoothly transition between 12 curated colors, selected by Sabine Marcelis, an artist who played a significant role in the lamp's original design.

Expanded Color Palette

Connecting the smart donut lamp to the Ikea Home Smart app through the Dirigera hub grants access to an extended color palette of 40 different hues. Users can also adjust the intensity of the lighting to suit their preferences.

Smart Varmblixt Pendant Lamp

Joining the smart donut lamp is the Varmblixt pendant lamp. This new addition allows users to fine-tune the warmth of its white LED lighting, transitioning from cool white lighting mimicking daylight to a warm yellow glow reminiscent of a candle. Like the smart donut lamp, the pendant lamp can be controlled using the Bilresa remote or integrated into smart home routines and automations through the Ikea Home Smart app and a Matter-compatible hub.

Relevance to North East India and Broader India

The expansion of Matter support to Ikea's home furnishings, including the Varmblixt lamps, signals a growing interest in smart home technology in India. As more companies invest in this sector, consumers in North East India can expect a wider variety of smart home devices tailored to their needs and lifestyles.

Looking Ahead

The smart donut lamp and pendant lamp will be available for purchase starting in April 2026. As Ikea continues to innovate and expand its smart home offerings, it will be interesting to see how these new additions are received by consumers and how they contribute to the growing smart home market in India.
