Analysis: Motorola finally has a foldable to rival the Galaxy Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Motorola Joins the Foldable Phone Race with the Razr Fold

Motorola Dives into the World of Foldable Phones

After years of resisting the trend, Motorola has finally entered the foldable phone market with the announcement of the Motorola Razr Fold at CES 2026. This move signifies a significant shift in the smartphone industry, particularly in the Northeast region of India, where Motorola has a substantial presence.

Design and Display: A Premium Experience

The Motorola Razr Fold will be available in two color options: Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White. The Blue model features a woven vegan leather rear with a durable, matte finish, while the White model has a modern luxury feel. The device boasts a 6.6-inch outer display, which unfolds to reveal an 8.1-inch 2K LTPO screen. The larger display supports stylus input and features palm rejection technology.

Camera System: Triple Camera Setup

The Razr Fold sports a triple camera system consisting of a 50MP Sony LYTIATM sensor, an ultra-wide/macro lens, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens. The rear cameras are complemented by a 32MP external selfie camera and a 20MP internal camera for selfies when the phone is unfolded. Additionally, the device supports Dolby Vision for video recording.

Size and Pricing: Will it Compete with the Giants?

Motorola claims the Razr Fold will have a slim silhouette, but the exact dimensions are yet to be revealed. The question remains whether it can compete with the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Honor Magic V5 in terms of slimness. As for pricing, Motorola positions the Razr Fold as its most premium device, suggesting a potentially high price tag similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Market Timing: Ahead of the iPhone Fold?

Motorola's decision to launch the Razr Fold may be strategic, as Apple is heavily rumored to launch the iPhone Fold later in 2026. It is speculated that Motorola might be trying to capture a share of the market before the iPhone Fold's release.

Looking Forward: The Future of Foldable Phones in India

Motorola's entry into the foldable phone market is significant for the Northeast region of India, where Motorola enjoys a strong customer base. The Razr Fold's premium features and potential high price tag indicate that the demand for high-end, innovative smartphones continues to grow in the region. As more companies join the foldable phone race, we can expect to see more competition and innovation in the Indian smartphone market.
