Microsoft's Ad-Supported Xbox Cloud Gaming: A New Era for Gaming in Northeast India
Microsoft is set to introduce an ad-supported version of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, potentially offering a more affordable gaming experience to a broader audience, including gamers in Northeast India.
Testing the Waters
Over the past few months, Microsoft has been conducting internal tests of the ad-supported service, as first revealed by Tom Warren, a senior editor and author of Notepad, who has been covering tech for over 20 years.
Now, the tech giant is preparing to test the free streaming option with Xbox Insiders, as indicated by updates to the Xbox app featuring loading screens for Xbox Cloud Gaming mentioning 1-hour ad-supported playtime per session.
Free Playtime, Ad-Supported
Sources close to the matter revealed that the internal testing includes around two minutes of preroll ads before a game becomes available to stream for free through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The free ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming will allow users to stream some games they own, as well as try out eligible Free Play Day titles over a weekend. Additionally, Xbox Retro Classics games will be streamable with preroll ads.
Implications for Northeast India
The introduction of an ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming service could make gaming more accessible and affordable for a larger audience in Northeast India, where internet penetration and gaming infrastructure are steadily improving.
Moreover, the availability of classic games through Xbox Retro Classics could appeal to a generation of gamers who grew up playing these titles and are now looking to relive their childhood gaming experiences.
Looking Ahead
Microsoft has yet to officially announce the ad-supported service, but it is expected to be officially unveiled and in public testing in the coming weeks.
As gaming continues to evolve and become more accessible, it will be interesting to see how the Northeast Indian gaming community adopts and embraces this new model of gaming.
